Lurid Orange - A West German Vase

Orange German VaseGerman pottery never fails to disappoint, and this one is no exception!

It’s a West German vase of the 18-921 pattern, but the colours are just awful.

Bright orange and reds with a blue/black undercoat which shows though on the high spots and is then flecked with white.

Not only are the colours pretty vulgar, but it’s also decorated with heavy relief work all over the body and around the neck.

If only they’d left it as a smooth surface and toned down the colours a little it would have been a great little vase. As it is I’m not sure which self respecting person would desecrate flowers by condemning their final glory to such a lurid vase.

Wonderful Scheurich piece. These will be the Whitefriars of the future (with prices to match). I must point out, I ’m colour-blind…:-)
